The Nyala typeface is named for the mountain nyala tragelaphus buxtoni a species of great African antelope native to the highlands of Ethiopia.
The Ethopic glyphs conform to the stylistic norms of typical text faces, but are lighter and more open than most Ethiopic types, making Nyala better suited to screen readability. A Latin typeface was also designed expressly to harmonise with the style and proportions of Ethiopic syllabics. This typeface is also available within Office applications.
