The two just click together and they made the rematch very entertaining. Loved everything about this. Okay, so I got quite a bit to say about this match. I did enjoy the limb work by Moxley here, as it was clearly the only way he was to gain the advantage. Well, you could give him points for at least trying.
Basically, the referee used discretion as to when a disqualification or a count-out would be called for, a lot of outside action, you know the usual. That was all well and fine. However, we do need to address the finish and the booking, which I believed was just straight awful.
First of all, of all the finishes you could have conceived of for this match, you have Tazz throw in the towel? If you ask me, that might have been even worse than Cage tapping outright. At least if Cage tapped out, you could have used the recently repaired bicep excuse. Why not just have one of those things the finishes? Instead, Cage looks rather weak and his debut looks like a waste in hindsight. So I guess you can call it somewhat memorable if anything.
How about you. The storytelling around Cody getting frustrated and making mistakes was nice as well. A lengthy feud would be welcome. And Kiss should win that feud. The match began with Rhodes showing off with some push-ups, and he hit an early Disaster Kick that Kiss kicked out of. Kiss then clocked Cody in the face back in the ring, threw him back out, and started absolutely lighting up the champion! Cody, however, got out of the way as the even-steven back-and-forth continued. The American Nightmare capitalized on Kiss hitting the stage area, and he did so by hitting Kiss on the outside even harder with an Alabama Slam.
But Kiss showed his great ring awareness by putting his feet on the ropes! Cody was sloppy himself, as the announcers pointed out, putting Kiss to close to the ropes in the first place during that pinfall attempt.
Cody got Kiss up again for another big move, but Kiss showed amazing resiliency by kicking out at 2. And then he kicked out again! He even took off the turnbuckle pad, showing a different side of himself.
And it backfired. Kiss reversed a move, sent Cody face-first on the turnbuckle, and nearly won via roll-up! But in the end, Kiss swung for the fences, Cody ducked, and turned it into a Cross Rhodes for the win. Huge show of respect with a heartfelt hug between the two competitors as well.
